Our top 10 MUST-SEE Gothic Movies

Looking for a perfect list of movies for a spooky night in? Okay, it’s not like we can really have a spooky night out at the moment, so we thought we’d hit you with our top ten favourite gothic must see movies to binge watch this lockdown.
So grab your potion of choice, grab a cauldron (or, you know, a bowl if you’re running low on cauldrons) of popcorn and buckle in for a night of freaky movie magic.
The Craft
A newcomer to a Catholic prep high school falls in with a trio of outcast teenage girls who practice witchcraft, and they all soon conjure up various spells and curses against those who anger them.
The Craft - Gothic Must See Movies
Okay we’re starting off strong with a classic. This movie is a hard staple for any budding Witch and a definite must watch! I have memories of watching this as a teen and Fairuza Balk is a real bad ass in this and not to mention a fashion ICON.
The Lost Boys
After moving to a new town, two brothers discover that the area is a haven for vampires.
lost-boys
I’m pretty sure this was the movie set the pretence for my taste in men. Mullet donning, motorcycle riding, earring wearing vampires are the ONLY kind of men I need in my life. They’re only noodles Michael and remember, NEVER invite a Vampire into your home!
Interview With A Vampire
A vampire tells his epic life story: love, betrayal, loneliness, and hunger.
Interview With A Vampire - Gothic Movie List
Still surfing the wave of the Vampire, this movie has a star studded cast from Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Christian Slater to tiny Kirsten Dunst, if The Lost Boys wasn’t enough Vampire action to fill your boots, this movie certainly will!
The Witch
A family in 1630s New England is torn apart by the forces of witchcraft, black magic, and possession.
The Witch - Gothic Movies
Some may love or hate this movie, but for me it was the super dark, intense, eerie Witch movie that I was craving! The last scene is enough to send chills down my spine, this is definitely a movie to watch in the dark.
Sleepy Hollow
Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate the decapitations of three people, with the culprit being the legendary apparition, The Headless Horseman.
Sleepy Hollow - Must See Movies
It wasn’t going to be long before a spooky movie by Tim Burton featuring Johnny Depp cropped up on our list. Another famously dark movie that surrounds the legend of the Headless Horseman, who happens to be a much, much spookier version of regular Christopher Walken.
The Love Witch
A modern-day witch uses spells and magic to get men to fall in love with her, with deadly consequences.
The Love Witch
Not quite as spooky, but the aesthetic of this movie is far too amazing to not feature on this list. The costumes, music and set design are absolutely incredible and each scene is a wonder to behold! It also features a beautiful woman casting spells and killing men, which is a vibe.
Hocus Pocus
A curious youngster moves to Salem, where he struggles to fit in before awakening a trio of diabolical witches that were executed in the 17th century.
Hocus Pocus
What’s that? You want MORE witchy goodness? Well, then I’m going to have to throw this one into the mix! Okay, it’s not so much scary, but it’s definitely a worthy movie to feature on this list and it’s one of our favourites to watch at Halloween. But now is as good a time as any!
Death Becomes Her
When a woman learns of an immortality treatment, she sees it as a way to outdo her long-time rival.
Death Becomes Her - Must See Gothic Films
This one is a favourite of mine, it’s definitely up there as one of my all-time favourite movies. Again much like The Craft, I have vivid memories of catching this on TV when I was a child, not quite understanding what I was watching, but somehow being traumatised by the stairway scene with Meryl Streep. You’ll know what I mean when you watch it. Potions, immortality, Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, Bruce Willis and a FABULOUS wardrobe. What more could you want from a movie?
The Crow
A man brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder.
The Crow - Gothic Must See Movies
Another classic movie on our gothic must-see movies is one to watch in the dark. We all know about the sad loss of Brendan Lee during the filming of this movie, so it would be wrong for it not to get an honourable mention. Plus it helps that the movie itself is a dark tale of revenge with an incredible soundtrack.
Pan’s Labyrinth
In the Falangist Spain of 1944, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world.
Pans Labyrinth - Gothic Movies
We’re ending this list with one of my favourite fantasy movies that never fails to make me cry! A perfect mixture of a fairy tale and dark fantasy, this parable is a must-see. As a total movie make-up lover, the appearance of much loved SFX actor Doug Jones (who also plays Billy Butcherson in Hocus Pocus FYI! We stan a SFX legend) along with the heavy use of Special Effects make-up and animatronics makes this movie a perfect final addition to our list!
